Why Hansons uses Halal Chicken
When preparing our lunches and sandwich platters, vegetarian fillings are always kept separate from meats, which we roast ourselves, and the chicken we use is halal.
In Arabic, the word “halal” means permissible. Animals must be fed vegetarian diets and be treated well in life and in death. They should not have to witness knife sharpening or slaughtering of others. It is a specific method of killing animals for food which requires that knives should be kept very sharp to ensure as little suffering as possible; it involves draining all the blood from the animal’s body. Blood in meat makes it more susceptible to putrefaction which is also hastened by lactic acid, which can be secreted by animals that are stunned prior to slaughter.
Halal meat is considered to be healthier, more tender, taste better and stay fresh longer as it is more resistant to bacteria.
